Piano lesson policy

Piano lessons typically necessitate an abiding connection among the teacher, student, and the student’s parent if he/she is a child.   Several years and earnest work are needed to develop into a pianist and an accomplished musician.  Congenial communication and cooperation among the two or three people are fundamental.

Fee schedule

               Half-hour rate is $20.00.

               45-minute rate is $30.00.

               Hour rate is $40.00.

The materials and music charges are the responsibility of the student or parent; not included in the lesson fee.

Competition and recital charges are also the responsibility of the student or parent.

Payment schedule

Monthly payments are due at the beginning of the month for the entire month.

Attendance

24 hour notice of cancellation is polite and courteous.  In cases of emergency, such as car not starting or sudden illness, last minute cancellation is acceptable.  If this is breeched makeup lessons will not be applied and no refund received.  Make up lessons will be scheduled for any acceptable cancellation in the 24 hour notice and in appropriate cases of emergencies.  Make up lessons will always be scheduled in the case of teacher cancellation. Five private lessons in the summer will be given with three group lessons unless other plans are discussed.

Discontinuing

A one week notice of discontinuing lessons is required in order to end on a positive lesson where we can go over our favorite songs, and we can say good-bye.  If this is breeched any prepaid lessons will not be refunded.

Family/Student Expectations and Requirements

The student will be required to put forth earnest work and practice in order to learn the music and exercises.

The student is required to have accessibility to a piano or finger sensitive, 88 piano sized keys keyboard for practicing.

The student is required to wash hands in the teacher’s downstairs bathroom before touching the teacher’s piano.

The student is required to keep fingernails trimmed short to ensure proper hand position and proper technique.

The family members or friends who stay to observe the lesson must stay in the hearth room (green carpeted area) or outside unless utilization of bathroom is needed and previous arrangements have been made with the teacher.

The student is required to bring materials to each lesson.  If breeched, the lesson will continue; however, new songs might not be assigned.  If continued forgetfulness of materials occurs, teacher will talk with parent about how to correct this.

The student will only play the teacher’s piano when asked to.

Parent’s expectations and requirements (if applicable):

Provide support, encouragement, and discipline for regular consistent practice.

In cases of beginners and young students the parent is required to review lesson assignments to ensure the student is prepared for our next lesson.

Communication

The student or parent can communicate with the teacher in person, email:bdprosek@insight.rr.com, text: (614)270-5994, or phone: (614)270-5994.

Releases

Taping of the student’s home practice might be needed to improve home practice.  Social media will not be used to exhibit student’s or teacher’s skills unless previous permission is obtained.  A release form will be given to student or parent(if applicable) if taped sessions are used other than for observation by the teacher.

Amendment clause

Changes to this policy are allowed during the year with discussion and understanding by all parties involved: the teacher, teacher’s family in teacher’s home, the student, and the student’s family.

Miscellaneous

Competitions and recitals are optional activities.
